The country that i am most related too is Ghana. My Grandpa on my Dads said is Ghanaian. Personally do not know a lot about my family history before the immigration to Ghana. The Ashanti or (Asante) clan had an empire that stretched from what is now central  Ghana to what is now called the Ivory Coast. The Ashanti empire was established in 1701 and lasted till 1957. The empire thrived from early firearm adoption. The name Asante means "because of war." The word derives from the twi words asa meaning "war" and nti meaning "because of". This name comes from the Asante's origin as a kingdom created to fight the Denkyira Kingdom. The Asante political organization was originally centered on clans headed by a paramount chief or Amanhene. One particular clan, the Oyoko, settled in the Ashanti's sub-tropical forest region, establishing a center at Kumasi. The Ashanti became tributaries of another Akan state, Denkyira but in the mid-17th century the Oyoko under Chief Oti Akenten started consolidating the Ashanti clans into a loose confederation against the DenkyiraIn. In December 1895, the British left Cape Coast with an expeditionary force. It arrived in Kumasi in January 1896 under the command of Robert Baden-Powell. The Asantehene directed the Ashanti to not resist, as he feared a genocide. Shortly thereafter, Governor William Maxwell arrived in Kumasi as well. Britain annexed the territories of the Ashanti and the Fanti. Asantehene Agyeman Prempeh was deposed and arrested, and he and other Ashanti leaders were sent into exile in the Seychelles. The Asante Union was dissolved. The British formally declared the state of the Ashanti Kingdom and the coastal regions to be the Gold Coast colony. A British Resident was permanently placed in the city of Kumasi, and soon after a British fort was built there. As a final measure of resistance, the remaining Asante court not exiled to the Seychelles mounted an offensive against the British Residents at the Kumasi Fort. The resistance was led by Asante queen Yaa Asantewaa, Queen-Mother of Ejisu. From March 28 to late September 1900, the Asante and British were engaged in what would become known as the War of the Golden Stool. In the end, the British were victorious; they exiled Asantewaa and other Asante leaders to the Seychelles to join Asante King Prempeh I.

The reason why a lot of people immigrated moved to Canada from Ghana is because of the criminal activity, the lack of jobs and communities living in poverty. My Grandpa and Dad immigrated to Canada in 1994. When Ghana became an independent country in 1965 They started  many problems At the Berlin conference the European countries divided up Africa but did not pay attention to the ethnic groups and here they live. Therefore a lot of African countries had rival tribes sharing the land. Most of the people were more loyal to their tribes and ethnic groups the the new country that they belong too. Because of this in many of the countries there was war and that is why many countries communities are very poor. The reasons why many people choose to immigrate to Canada is because: it is much easier to qualify the other counties, Jobs are easy to find, minimum wage is very good at $10.50, and Canada has excellent trade and opportunities. Also Canada is a very diverse place full of people that are different races and religion; and still remains to be a very peaceful country.

If was to live in Ghana today life would be very different. Most people in Ghana live in the countryside.if i wanted to go to university the best place to go would be the university f Ghana, which is in the capital, of Accra. Transportation Is very different Most people rely on major transport to travel any distance. Mammy-wagons carry large numbers of people to work in towns from the outlying shanty-towns and villages. Mammy-wagons are wooden frames on a lorry chassis. Religion is very important in Ghana. 25 percent of the people are Muslims, 23 percent are traditionalist and 41 percent, because of European colonization, is christian. Since the falling of all all of the kings in Ghana the country has become a democracy. A cool fact that i found is that since I was born on a Sunday i would also be called Kwesi. The languages spoken in Ghana is: English French and Twi.

  1. My grandpa also came here from Africa because of the criminal activity and poverty. He also came to Canada because of the good opportunity to make money and live in a peaceful country.
